Bleeds helps you extend artwork beyond the final cut size so printed pieces can be trimmed cleanly without unintended white edges.
A bleed is extra artwork extending past the trim line (the finished edge of a printed piece). Small cutting variations can happen in production. Extending the design beyond that line helps prevent unwanted white slivers.
Attempts to continue photographic backgrounds, gradients, and textures beyond the trim.
Stretches colors directly at the trim edge outward. Useful for simple backgrounds.
Attempts to continue lines, flat-color shapes, and graphic boundaries.
Bleed: the outside edge of the exported artwork. Trim Line: the intended cut edge. Safe Area: an inset guide for keeping important text and logos away from the cut. Guides are for preview; inspect export settings for crop marks.
Automated extension is an approximation, especially around faces, text, logos, fine patterns, and complex shapes. Check every edge at full resolution. Keep critical content inside the safe area, verify your printer's bleed and file requirements, and always proof the exported file before production.
